“Haay, ba’t ang bagal ng oras ngayon?” 

“Wala na bang mas boring pa today?” 

“I’m so bored at work, I could cry.” Wow, English.

Panay tingin sa orasan. 

Laging naghahanap ng distraction sa social media. 

Madalas nakapangalumbaba habang nakatingin sa screen ng computer.

Ito rin ba ang scenario mo araw-araw? Sobrang bored mo na ba to the point na lahat ng chismis ni workmate pinatulan mo na?

In short, naging Marisol dahil sa boredom. Saklap naman nun. 

Pero maraming nakararanas nito, Breaker. Ang iba nga, dahil sa tagal na nilang bored sa work, kino-consider na nilang mag-resign sa workplace nila.

But as your friend, we won’t advise you to quit your job because of boredom. Ang puwede mong gawin ngayon ay i-consider itong tips namin, then after trying these, you can reassess if enough ba na reason ang pagiging bored para mag-resign sa trabaho. 

Bored from work tip #1: Make a plan to change your scenery

Work-from-home setup has its advantages. Mas kontrolado mo ang time mo, hindi hassle mag-commute, at nakatipid ka pa sa pamasahe.  

But this setup also has its disadvantages. One disadvantage? You suffer from the monotony of working from home. Parehas lang kasi ang nakikita mo sa paligid araw-araw, walang bago. Thus, the monotony of working from home resulted in a high percentage of employees being bored to death. Sabi pa nga sa GetAssist.net, “In a recent survey of British Columbians, researchers found that 60% of people working from home due to COVID-19 are more bored than usual.” 

Pero may puwede kang gawin dito. That is, make a plan to change your work scenery. Here are few of your options: 

  • Allocate a budget to do your work at a coffee shop at least once a week. 
  • Finally experience working on the beach. 
  • Redecorate the interior of your workstation at home. 

Bored from work tip #2: Make a plan to schedule your vacation leave 

Breaker, siguro bored ka dahil wala ng spice ang life mo. Pero ‘di jowa ang solusyon dito, ah. Minsan, kailangan mo lang talaga iplano ang vacation leave na ibinigay ng company niyo.

This is good for you because it will make you feel excited. Maganda sa pakiramdam ‘yung may ni-lu-look forward ka. So, go on vacation, allocate a budget for it, and book your flight! ‘Di naman kailangan sa mamahalin ka magbakasyon. ‘Yung swak lang din sa budget mo.

And if ang rason kung bakit ayaw mong magbakasyon ay dahil wala kang kasama, worry no more dahil maraming travel agencies ang nag-e-encourage ng joiners. You will travel with strangers, and if this is uncomfortable to you, puwede mo naman silang ‘wag pansinin dahil ‘di naman ‘yan sila namimilit. Haha! 

Also, isn’t it nice to travel all by yourself? For sure, marami kang ma-di-discover about sa sarili mo. 

Bored from work tip #3: Make a plan to do something you’ve never done before 

If you feel like your work doesn’t excite you anymore, then do something in your personal life that will make you feel excited– do something you’ve never done before.

Gusto mo bang matutong magluto or mag-bake? 

Gusto mo bang mag-aral mag-drive? 

Gusto mo bang matuto mag-arrange ng flowers? 

Gusto mo bang matutong gumawa ng sarili mong damit? 

Gusto mo bang mag-aral mag-paint? 

Gusto mo bang mag-volunteer? 

Gusto mo bang magsimula ng sarili mong negosyo? 

Then, what is hindering you from doing one of these? 

We know that your job requires so much of your time, but make a plan to do something for yourself, too. Because this builds your anticipation and will lessen the feeling of being stuck in repetitive work assignments.  

Okay lang pagbigyan ang sarili mo kahit paminsan-minsan lang, Breaker. You don’t need to feel guilty about it, as long you live within your means, too. 

Bored from work tip #4: Make a plan to take care of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being

Tanggapin na natin. Wala tayong jowa na mag-aalaga sa atin, and that’s okay. Pinanganak tayong single, mabubuhay tayong single! Amen? Haha!

On a more serious note, taking care of your physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, lahat ng may ‘al,’ is important in producing excellent output and delivering your best performance. 

Sabi pa sa Mental Health First Aid Organization, “Being your best professional self requires that you take care of your health. Indeed, when you neglect basic healthy habits, you run the risk of being tired, unfocused and more vulnerable to illness. This can create a significant negative impact on your work performance, whether you work from home, on the road, or in an office.” 

When you make a plan to take care of your holistic well-being, you will be amazed by the difference it can make in your life as a professional. 

Here’s what you can do: 

  • Exercise outdoors at least 20 minutes a day for your physical health. 
  • Practice gratitude and write at least three things you’re grateful for, or journal how you feel. This is good for your emotional health. 
  • Maintaining your peace and lessening your screen time can boost your mental well-being. 
  • Meditate on the Bible day and night. This is for your soul needs.

Bored from work tip #5: Make a plan to experience full rest 

Baka ang reason bakit ka laging bored sa work ay dahil kulang ka sa tulog o pahinga? 

Breaker, whether you believe it or not, human beings are designed to rest. Ang kinakailangan nating oras sa pagtulog ay 7-8 hours every night. If you always sleep lower than the required number of hours ng katawan mo, by cause and effect, pagod ka talaga pagdating sa work and ma-bo-bore ka kahihintay sa oras ng uwian dahil gugustuhin mo nang magpahinga.

That’s the natural reaction of your body. So, what should you do to stop this from happening? Plan your rest and follow a schedule of what time to sleep. 

So, before you quit your job because of boredom, i-try mo muna itong gawin, Breaker. Malay mo mag-work kayo– este, mag-work ‘to sa ‘yo.  

Napansin mo ba na may key phrase tayo sa limang tips? Yes, meron po in case ‘di mo napansin. Siya lang kasi lagi mong napapansin, eh. Ahem…

The key phrase is, “MAKE A PLAN.”

By simply making a plan, you acknowledge that something needs to be addressed and done. Kung ang ibang tao, nagiging okay na lang sa kanila ang maging bored hanggang sa ma-burnout sa work, not so with you, Breaker, because we’re here to journey with you on this. 

‘Di puwedeng bored ka lagi sa work. Sayang naman, halos buong araw mo ang nakalaan sa work. ‘Di ka na nga nakakapag-date, tapos bored ka pa?! Big NO ‘yun!

Also, making a plan gives you the upper hand that you can do something about it, subconsciously thinking that it’s a problem na puwedeng hanapan ng solusyon.

Because at the end of the day, wala naman talagang imposible sa taong nag-pu-pursige!
