This year, and even the past year, have been tough for everyone. Walang naging exempted sa pandemyang nangyari. Maraming nagkasakit, nawalan ng trabaho, nalugi ang negosyo, at may mga nawalan ng mahal sa buhay. These situations are overwhelming, kaya normal na makaramdam tayo ng lungkot.

At alam mo ba kung ano’ng mas nakakalungkot? ‘Yung katotohanang halos pare-pareho tayong lahat ng nararamdaman.

Kaya ngayon, Breaker, we’re here to let you know that you’re not alone! We are all in this together, and we can BreakThrough sadness.

Here are practical steps from Icko Gonzalez and Neo Rivera of CBN Asia’s online show, Whatcha Say, Thursday!.

BreakThrough Practical Step #1: Acknowledge that you are sad.

Wala talagang mabuting naidudulot ang pagiging in denial, Breaker. Don’t deny your feelings. Chour!

Sa anumang sitwasyon, palaging mas nakabubuting i-acknowledge ang nararamdaman mo kesa takpan ito.

Acknowledge that you are sad, and that’s okay. Because your feelings are valid.

Sabi pa nga ni Icko, “Emotions demand to be felt.”

Boom! *Mic drop*

Minsan din kasi, feeling natin kasalanan ang pagiging malungkot. Feeling natin napakasama nating tao dahil malungkot tayo. Pero katulad ng sabi ni Icko, “Sadness is a normal human emotion. We all feel sad from time to time.”

It’s okay to be sad, Breaker.

Acknowledging that you are sad is also one way of taking care of your emotional health.

So next time you feel sad, i-acknowledge mo. Okay? Okay.

After mong gawin ang step #1, you can then apply step #2.

BreakThrough Practical Step #2: Identify the reasons why you’re sad.

From time to time, it’s good to have a real talk session with yourself, Breaker. Dapat hindi lang tayo sa social media nag-re-real talk, pati rin sa sarili natin. You can ask yourself questions, and you can answer it as honestly as you want.

Nalulungkot ka ba dahil mag-isa ka?

Gusto mo na bang bumalik sa normal ang lahat?

Do you feel the Christmas blues?

May pinagdaraanan ka ba ngayon?

Are you trying to move on from someone?

May na-mi-miss ka bang tao?

So ayun na nga, balik tayo sa tanong. Alam mo ba ang mga rason kung bakit ka malungkot?

Kung hindi pa, maybe this is the time to discover the reasons. Take your time and get to know yourself better. Kasi kapag alam mo ang dahilan, mas madali itong masu-solusyunan. 

When you already know the reasons, puwede mo nang gawin ang step #3.

By the way, congrats pala dahil umabot ka sa last step. Konting kembot na lang to finally BreakThrough sadness, Breaker!

BreakThrough Practical Step #3: Minister to yourself.

Naaalala mo ba si David sa Bible? Sikat siya bilang isa sa writers ng Psalms. Makikita natin sa ibang sulat niya kung paano niya kinakausap ang soul niya.

Sa Psalm 42:5 NIV sinabi niya, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Isa itong Bible verse for sadness and this is very effective. Here, we saw how David searched his soul, and how he encouraged his self to hope in God.

Ang galeng!

Puwede mo rin itong gawin, Breaker. Minister to yourself like how you would minister to others. Lalo na ngayon at madalas tayong nasa bahay, hindi tayo masyadong nakakalabas with other people. This is the perfect time to learn how to minister to yourself.
