“Kung titigilan mo ‘yang pagiging baduy mo, sasagutin kita.”

“Mahal mo ako, ‘di ba? Kaya dapat magbago ka para sa ‘kin!”

“Pumili ka, ‘yang barkada mo o ako?”

Malamang maraming beses mo na itong narinig, either sa movies, or sa totoong buhay.

Pero maririnig mo ito hindi lang sa mga mag-jowa, kundi pati na rin sa pamilya, barkada, school, at trabaho.

“Stop being childish, act like your age.”

“Pre, lalaki ka ba talaga? Ang lampa mo!”

“Iha, you should change your image into a more mature woman. Public figure ka pa naman.”

Change, then I will love you. This is the voice of the world.

But you know what the voice of Truth says? I love you, that’s why I’ll transform you for the better, to the person I created you to be.

Identity and Security in Jesus 1

It’s wiser to believe in the LORD, Breaker.

And Mav Gonzales is here to prove that.

GMA news reporter, Mav Gonzales, shared how she stood her ground when she was told to change her image in her workplace. She shared some tips in one of Kapit Lang’s webisodes, hosted by Sonjia Calit.

Place Your Identity and Security in Jesus Tip #1: Cultivate your relationship with Jesus.

Having a personal relationship with Jesus changes everything about you – your thoughts, your affections, and your choices. Thus, it will change your surroundings and life. Though ‘di mo ito mapapansin sa simula, but rest assured na ang Word ni LORD is alive and it will not return void to Him.

Puwede natin itong i-compare sa pagtatanim. Kaway-kaway sa mga Plantito at Plantita diyan!

Anyway.

Pansin mo ba na when you plant a seed, ‘di agad ito tumutubo sa loob ng isang linggo? Makikita mo lang ang growth and fruit niya after how many weeks. And as a planter, alam mo na ganiyan talaga ang proseso ng plants. It’s normal, it’s natural, walang halong kemikal. LOL.

Identity and Security in Jesus 2

And because you know the natural process of growing a plant, ‘di ka tumitigil sa pag-ko-cultivate, pag-wo-water, at pag-aalaga dahil lang wala ka pang nakikitang resulta.

It’s the same with your relationship with the LORD. ‘Di dahil wala ka pang nakikitang changes sa sarili mo, ay titigil ka na sa pagbabasa ng Bible, or titigil ka na sa pagdarasal. You have to cultivate your relationship with God by reading His Word and talking to Him consistently through prayer. And time will come, like how the plants grow when you cultivate them, you will also see yourself bloom.

Your desires will be aligned with His, you’ll fulfill His big dreams for you, and the things that break His heart will break yours as well.

He will be your identity and security. He will be your everything. And isn’t that the ultimate goal?

Place Your Identity and Security in Jesus Tip #2: Base your worth on what Jesus did for you.

Because she loved her work, she did well and excelled in her workplace. And after some time, pinangakuan siya ng promotion.

It had something to do with her physical appearance. They wanted her to appear a certain way, dress a certain way, and change her public image. And for Mav, that sounded so unfair.

“LORD, ginalingan ko naman ang trabaho ko, pero bakit dun pa sa area ng physique ‘yung naging issue?” she asked God.

Sounds familiar ba, Breaker? ‘Yung mga linyahan na, “LORD, ginalingan ko naman, pero bakit ‘di pa rin sapat?”

“I did my best, but I guess my best wasn’t good enough.”

“Pangit ba ako? Kapalit-palit ba ‘ko?!”

Okay, kalma. Baka na-carried away na kayo diyan.

Anything or anyone that makes you question your worth is not worth it, Breaker. That’s why in the end, mas pinili ni Mav mag-resign because she believed that if something comes from God, she shouldn’t change who she really is. That she shouldn’t change her beliefs, her values, and principles for others, because she’s secure in the LORD.

Sana all, secure!

Sabi sa 1 Peter 1:18-19 (TPT), “For you know that your lives were ransomed once and for all from the empty and futile way of life handed down from generation to generation. It was not a ransom payment of silver and gold, which eventually perishes, but the precious blood of Christ—who like a spotless, unblemished lamb was sacrificed for us.”

Ganiyan ka kahalaga. Your salvation cost God His life, so place your worth on what the LORD paid at the cross to have you back. Tandaan mo ‘to palagi, Breaker, and don’t lose sight of who you really are in God’s eyes.

Dahil kapag ito isinabuhay mo, it will then be easier for you to do the 3rd tip.

Place Your Identity and Security in Jesus Tip #3: Prioritize saying yes to the LORD.

When you say yes to something, it means you’re saying no to another thing. And we sincerely hope, Breaker, na pipiliin mong mag yes kay LORD before anything or anyone else. If you do that, God’s favor and blessing will follow you.

Katulad ng nangyari kay Mav.

When she resigned, walang kasiguruhan na makahahanap agad siya ng trabaho. The thought of being jobless slightly worried her, but she stood her ground. ‘Di na talaga niya pinush ‘yung sa previous job niya even though she really loved it! She wanted to honor God, so she said yes to Him and no to the promotion.

And God honored her decision, kaya ang nangyari, may opportunity agad na dumating! ‘Di umabot sa point na nabakante siya, and heto pa, ha. She was given a work na aligned sa passion niya, and a kind of work that she really enjoyed! Plus, the process that would usually take a year to complete was done in less than a month.

Sobrang galing lang ni LORD!

We’re sharing Mav’s story to you, Breaker, because this is something that you can claim for yourself, too.

When God blesses, He adds no sorrow to it. He is able to open an opportunity that is so much better than what you prayed and wanted. At the same time, He is also able to close doors that are not good for you.

You can never go wrong in saying yes to the LORD.

But declare this to yourself: “My security is in Jesus. My identity is in what He has done on the cross for me. I will say yes to Him first.”

And like what God said to Mav, maybe you’ll hear Him say, “I will put you elsewhere. And I will make you bloom where I’ll plant you next.”
