“Tapusin ko na lang ‘to kapag ready na ‘ko.”

Familiar ba sa ‘yo ang linyahan na ‘to, Breaker?

Nako, ayan tayo eh!

Naalala mo ba ‘yung task last week na hindi mo agad sinimulan dahil sabi mo, you don’t feel like doing it?

‘Wag ganon, Breaker.

Akala mo madali lang yung task at mabilis mo lang matatapos kaya you keep putting it off.

Sounds familiar ‘no?

Minsan kasi ang mindset mo, you must be inspired muna before you can start working on a given task. Pero that’s not always the case, Breaker.

“The reality is that if you wait until you’re in the right frame of mind to do certain tasks (especially undesirable ones), you will probably find that the right time simply never comes along, and the task never gets completed.” Sabi yan ni Kendra Cherry in her article, What Is Procrastination, by Verywell Mind.

If you’re not careful, Breaker, the effects of procrastination can have serious impact on your mental health, and on your social and professional wellbeing.

Para hindi na magdagdagan ang stress ng life mo, mabuti pa at basahin mo na ‘tong 5 BreakThrough Tips namin on how to get things done.

BreakThrough Tip #1: Create a To-Do List.

One of the most important things you can really do for yourself is to get organized, Breaker.

Before diving straight into your tasks, ilista mo muna lahat ng dapat mong matapos for the week. It doesn’t have to be in order. Ang mahalaga lang mailista mo muna sila para you can get an overview of the things that you need to accomplish.

BreakThrough Tip #2: Prioritize.

Once naisulat mo na lahat ng tasks, now is the time to evaluate each of them and identify their importance and urgency.

One way to do this is by setting deadlines.

Another great tool that you can use to prioritize your tasks is the Time Management Matrix by Stephen Covey. May 4 quadrants ‘to that will help you categorize each tasks if they are Urgent and Important, Not Urgent but Important, Urgent but Not Important, and Not Urgent and Not Important.

Doing this will help you break your tasks into smaller manageable ones.

BreakThrough Tip #3: Eliminate Distractions.

Ask yourself, Breaker. Ano ba talaga ang umaagaw ng atensyon mo away from your tasks? Si Facebook ba ‘yan? Instagram? Local News o Netflix?

Ano pa ‘yan, it will help kung ilalayo mo muna whatever it is that distracts you. If it’s social media, puwede ka mag turn-off ng app notification para ‘di ka laging tingin nang tingin sa phone mo every time may tutunog.

O kaya naman, you can temporarily hide these apps from your phone. Ilagay mo sila pinakadulo o pinakahuli ng screen. That way, di ka mabilis na mate-tempt mag-browse if you need to use your phone to call or text someone.

BreakThrough Tip #4: Just do it.

This is the best tip that we can give you, Breaker.

Just do it.

There’s no other way to complete your tasks than by doing it. ‘Wag na mag-excuse na tinatamad ka o wala kang gana. Isipin mo na lang that the consequence of your procrastination outweighs your excuses right now.

For sure, ‘di mo bet ang ganito, Breaker. Kaya always remind yourself of the importance of that task na pinipilit mo isinasantabi.

BreakThrough Tip #5: Reward yourself.

Lastly, maganda ring i-reward mo ang sarili mo for each task na maa-accomplish mo, especially for the tasks na talaga namang nag-drain sa energy mo at sa mga pinilit mo talagang tapusin even if it meant dragging your entire body.

Berigud ka doon, Breaker!

Tap yourself on the back and rest a little bit. Deserve mo ‘yan.

Pero remind ka lang namin, Breaker ha. Reward yourself in a healthy manner. Kasi baka mamaya niyan ni-reward mo nga ‘yung sarili mo pero nag-fall ka naman into a bad habit.

‘Wag ganern!

Halimbawa, don’t use binge-eating unhealthy or processed foods as your reward. Kasi when you really look at it, hindi naman talaga reward ang makukuha mo kapag tinuloy-tuloy mo ang ganyang habit. The same goes if you use “retail-therapy” as your means of reward.

Just do it in moderation, Breaker.

Opx!
